I guess as long as you keep it free it’s ok and exempt. I just want to clarify that with our regulators before I start going around suggestion it to local cafes (and potentially getting them in trouble). Probably should get ourselves (Free Australia Wireless) Professional Indemnity insurance …

Hey Nathanael, I haven’t particularly looked into the implications of offering free wifi. I already sell computer time in my cafe and I know that the Second Cup coffee shop across the street offers free wifi.

I doubt there will be any problems unless I’m doing a crazy amount of traffic.

So – no concerns about getting a carrier license to run the free node? In Australia I’m not sure about the implications of advertising a free wireless service (exempt under our telecommunication regulator’s legislation) … but as a business.
