I hated that Wiki assignment. And the Frontpage assignment. Wow. The ERD (#2) and Access (#3) assignments were the only valuable assignments in that class, the others were complete garbage.

FrontPage gives profs an easy way to introduce the concepts of web design. It means theyre not trying to teach you how to use a complicated app and a concept (web design) at the same time. Everyone knows how to use Word, so they can use FrontPage, so they can focus on introducing you to web design concepts

Learning FrontPage does not teach you the concept behind web design. Learning HTML would be teaching the concept, and using FrontPage would be the tool you pick up.

"but you won’t learn how to properly analyze a market or work through a business case or do some high level finance, etc."

None of those things require specific versions of software, etc. They're concepts. You're learning the concepts; how you implement them is what you pickup in the work place (how to use their specific application, etc)

I think you do learn specific skills tailored to the specific job you're doing within a few months of leaving, but you won't learn how to properly analyze a market or work through a business case or do some high level finance, etc. efficiently by just working for someone. Or if you did it would take you a long time.

I'll agree that IT/technology education is pretty frustrating, and it's because it's moving quickly, but this is just laziness.

You do come across as kinda arogant in your board postings, which would make someone not like you. Which is a shame, because the problem is legitimate.

The thing is, school sucks like this. It's the same with almost all non-vocational programs; you don't get to learn the real skills you need to do the job you'll eventually be in. But, in reality you'll up up learning those skills in the first few months of a job, as they're usually the kind of thing that any someewhat intelligent person can pick up pretty quickly.

I wouldn't loose too much sleep over it. It sucks, but being on the receiving end of most IT/technology education is a very fustrating experience.
